"Modelling" can only ever be a model of the real thing.
Even the "modelling" wonders of the digital age have so far only really appealed to the amateur musician. Hardware and software "models" of valve amps are big business in this respect. Put any of these next to a comparable valve amp, however, and there is still something missing.
They are, after all, only computer models of the real thing. Virtual tone.
Performing musicians who care about tone know that they are a poor substitute on stage for the right valve amp.
So TONE is the reason musicians still favour an ancient technology, despite the associated poor reliability, massive weight, and excessive heat.
